History

The Vemedia Group is a leading company in self-care medication, health products, pharmaceutical ingredients, and insecticides with activities in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Vemedia Pharma S.A. was established in September 2002 as a platform for the take-over of Vemedia B.V., the former OTC department of Solvay Nederland.

Vemedia B.V. was established on 19th April 1961 by Philips Duphar and Gist Brocades as a company that was active in the veterinary field. On 1st November 1983 Solvay Pharmaceuticals added its activities in the fields of self-care medication (OTC products), health products and pesticides after having acquired these activities through Duphar and Kalichemie. On 16th September 2002 Solvay Pharmaceuticals sold the company to Vemedia Pharma.

Ever since the Belgian subsidiary Vemedia S.A. has taken over the activities of ABC Chemicals in 2006, the Vemedia Group is also active in the sales of pharmaceutical ingredients for magistral formula (number 2 in Belgium). Vemedia SA will also be the platform for the distribution of all OTC and parapharmaceutical products of Vemedia in Belgium.

Through the take-overs of Viatris Manufacturing and ABC Chemicals in 2006 Vemedia has not only succeeded in considerably reinforcing its own brand portfolio, but it has also acquired its own production facility.

In December 2006 the Vemedia Group has concluded the take-over of Distributie Care. Distributie Care is a Dutch company in the same industry that is active in the sales and marketing of food supplements, of which several products are the market leader in their segment.

In July 2007 the Vemedia Group has taken over Methapharma. Methapharma develops high quality food supplements (nutraceuticals), mainly in the field of artrosis, arthritis and various cartilage dysfunctions (with Oteoplus as the Belgian market leader), attention deficit (with Attental) en prostate (with Benypro).

In the constant search for futher growth, Vemedia has acquired in Mai 2008, a very important asset in order to establish its further European growth: Valdispert from Solvay Pharmaceuticals. Valdispert is a well established brand in the stress-related and sleeping market. It has a leading position in the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Italy. It has also some minor market share in countries like Belgium, Greece, Austria, Scandinavia, South-Africa and Brazil.
